TGP #6 Tall girl jokes are getting old.

Recently, I have heard a few tall girl jokes that inspired me to write this blog. I was at the Saint Patrick’s Day parade on Saturday and I was wearing my cowgirl boots that make me about a inch taller. While I was walking around with my friend, people had to nerve to ask me how tall I was and some even said things to me like "woh look at that girl she’s like 7'2." This made me VERY angry because I am not that tall. Just because someone is taller than you does not make them a giant. Maybe they are normal size and you are the midget.
There are a lot of offensive things you can say to someone that is taller than you.. The most common would have to be "how’s the weather up there?" or "Are you going to be able to fit?" An old joke is when someone who is tall has pants that are too short, one can ask "whens the flood?" or "are you expecting a flood soon?"
I will never forget this one kid who makes a tall joke almost every day at school (not saying names). Every day I walk into class there is something new about me not being able to fit somewhere or hitting my head on something or calling me weird names that don’t even make sense. The one question that he asks that makes me the maddest is "Whitney, why are you so tall?" WELL I DONT KNOW! If you want to know so bad go ask my mom or my doctor! I guess the next question I should ask is why are you so short? Remarks like this make us tall girls the maddest.
I think over time tall girls get used to hearing little smart remarks about them being tall. Sometime we will even take the jokes as a complement because we'd rather hear your bad jokes than having your stubby little legs.

TGP #5 Small spaces..... End of story.

The definition of a tall girls pet peeve would be small spaces. Everywhere we go we are faced to deal with them and work around them. Really small cars drive me the craziest. First of all, our legs are too long to even try to fit in the back seat of a small car and then once we get in the front seat we are forced to scrunch over so our head doesn’t hit the top and so we can actually see out the widow. This is just annoying.

The big problem is that you cant even really do anything abut it! There are no solutions because we cant change the size of the car our ourselves.

Another car that really is annoying for tall girls are busses. We sit in these seats for long periods of time and after a while sitting straight up is not conferrable anymore. We try turning our knees out in to the middle of is isle and we get yelled at by the driver.

My solution has always been to put my knees up on their seat. You have to make sure you don't push too hard though or else your long legs will be kneeing the persons back in front of you.

BEDS. Beds are something I could tal about for a long time because they are the place where you spend the other part of your life and for a tall girl small beds might be on of the worst things ever. There is nothing worse than having a really long day, coming home, getting into bed and then having your feet hang of of the end of the bed, the blankets not cover your toes and you head almost hitting the head board. Once again us tall girls have to come up with these solutions to avoid situations like this.

For me I have moved to a queen bed because me in a twin is just out of the question.  There are few solutions to this problem. Get a bigger bed, find ways to make your self sleep smaller so you don't wake up half way off the bed and get more than 2 blankets so that one can be lower and the other one is higher so your feet wont hang out. I have no idea howI'm going to get though college with a twin bed.

TGP#4 Do you play basketball?... No, I play mini golf.

tall vs short... tall always wins.
Hey there. So my next blog is going to be about a topic that actually just recently happened to me. I was at the grocery store, by myself and this lady came up to me and commented on how tall I was and said how she wished she was my height. I was flattered until she pulled out the question "So you play basketball?"

HM… NO lady. I don’t play basketball just because I am tall. Tall people can do a lot of things and there are more sports than just basketball that are good to play if you are tall.

For example, the average height for a D1 college volleyball player is now 6'2. There are many other examples I could use but they are not needed. Years ago women’s sports were not as intense and at such a high level that they are today. Now a days girls need to be tall and athletic if they are going to go anywhere with their sport.

It just saddens me that some people are still stuck in the past and don’t realize how much girls sports have changed. Guys get a lot of credit for playing football and basketball and baseball, the list goes on and on. They get 3 times the attention that girls do and that is also frustrating. Guys can have dreams about playing in the NFL or the MBA and dreams to be getting paid millions for doing something they love and having a millions of fans. But sadly girls will never get this.

The only professional sport we have that gets any type of fan base is the WMBA. Women are unrecognized and unappreciated in sports. So next time you ask someone tall if they just play basketball… think twice before saying it because you never know what that person might do.
